What is the difference between a certified and notarized translation?

Last Updated: Jan 02, 2017 10:05AM UTC
Both the Certified and the Notarized translations contain our company and translator certification. However, depending on what purposes you are submitting your translation for, you may need one or the other.  Certified translations are delivered only electronically in .pdf format and are sufficient for numerous legal purposes in the U.S. including, Immigration, DHS, USCIS, NVC, and Immigration courts.

Some government bodies require the original signatures and notarization with the translation. Therefore a Notarized translation may be required.

Do I need a Certified or Notarized Translation?
If you are submitting the documents for Immigration Purposes within the U.S., you should obtain only a Certified Translation which costs $29 per page and is guaranteed to be accepted for all immigration purposes.

Notarized translations cost $49 per page.

If you are submitting the documents for Educational Purposes such as having your High School Transcripts, Foreign Diplomas, etc. translated, the safest option is to get the Notarized Translation, as we will work with the Educational Institutions to ensure that the translation is accepted.

If you are submitting the documents for Government Purposes such as having your Driver's License Translated for the DMV, having your divorce certificate translated for General Courts and etc., the safest option is to get the Notarized Translation.  We are more than happy to accommodate any special certification requests.

Some Universities and Government agencies may be willing to accept an Electronic Certified translation.  You should check with the institution to confirm whether or not a Notarized (Original) Certification or Electronic Certification is accepted.  We will be more than happy to send the Certified Translation directly to any contact at the University or Government Agency that you need us to.
